The SAR Team is responsible for all search and rescue missions within Salt Lake County. It also provides mutual aid to other counties. The team is designated as an emergency medical services provider by the state of Utah. All services are provided free of charge. DONATE TODAY
Derek DeBruin
Derek DeBruin climbs year-round on the northern end of the Wasatch near his home in Ogden, where he lives with his wife and son. He instructs and guides all kinds of mountain activities and serves on Weber County Search and Rescue. If he's not in the Wasatch, there's a good chance you can find him in the west desert at Notch Peak.
Ben Eder
Ben Eder is an architect in Salt Lake City by day and an avid climber by night. He has been volunteering for Salt Lake County Sheriff's Search and Rescue for the past few years as an active rescuer and the Preventive Search and Rescue Educator. While climbing locally is his favorite go-to, he has spent quite a bit of time abroad, bagging the Beckey-Chouinard, Scio Bolesomme, but his favorite climb thus far in his career has been 'Layaway Plan' in Indian Creek.
Jess Shade
Jess Shade is a high-altitude ski mountaineer, queer woman, and Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensed in Utah and Michigan. She works as a clinician with the American Alpine Club’s Climbing Grief Fund, is the contract staff therapist for the Utah Avalanche Center, and works with several guiding companies. Additionally, Jess works closely with Utah’s LGBTQ+ community and serves on the board of the LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapist Guild of Utah. Emmeline WanG
Emmeline is a rock climber, hiker, and nature lover at heart. By day, she manages AllTrails' global social media channels, inspiring others to fall in love with the outdoors while being stewards on the trails. Outside of her day job, she freelance writes, advocating for our environment as well as increasing visibility and representation among minority groups, specifically with the LGBTQ+ and Asian American community. Patrick Morrison- Moderator
Patrick Morrison is a Program Manager with the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation. A Utah native, he is an avid climber, fly fisher, and backpacker. Before his current role, he served as Trails Director for the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation, an environmental stewardship non-profit in Salt Lake City. He has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and a Master’s degree from New York University. A former political professional in New York, the natural lands of Utah are where he belongs.
